Heart Brake
With stones, drums, and their voices, they create a ritual concert and prayer, bringing Wilgefortis to life. This centuries-old bearded woman, also known as Saint Ontkommer, is a symbol of resistance. Her gruesome history and gender-transcending identity offered strength to those seeking to break free from oppression and violence. On stage, the performers will explore physical and vocal boundaries. Their voices transcend traditional gender roles as they depict the labor and rhythm of splitting stones. In our society, who is allowed to strike, and who is struck? What happens when the blow lands, and the space begins to vibrate? The choreography emerges from breath, voice, and song. This creates a powerful movement toward liberation, of themselves and of each other. Finally, the performers will perform a punk opera in tribute to Freak Orlando , the iconic 1981 film by Ulrike Ottinger.
