Towards a new Noorderlicht in 2025

The café-restaurant Noorderlicht is temporarily away from the NDSM-Werf due to renovation of the café-restaurant.

When café Noorderlicht started on the NDSM wharf 17 years ago, there was nothing: no ferry, no residential towers and no festivals. With an eye for sustainability, culture and the social environment, Noorderlicht has grown into one of Amsterdam's most popular cultural cafés. The originally temporary café grew at the seams with 275,000 guests in 2019 and was forced to renovate to, among other things, clean up the ground. The recognizable round shed has been demolished and will be replaced by a new permanent shed with a restaurant and, among other things, a classroom where young people can learn how to cook. The renewed Noorderlicht hopes to open its doors in the spring of 2025.

In the spirit of Noorderlicht's cultural and culinary living room, the Noorderlicht team came up with the beer garden design: accessible, where guests can sit together with space for meeting and culture. In collaboration with the German beer brewer, Amsterdammers can visit the Paulaner Biergarten Amsterdam for the next two years. In addition to beer, the beer garden also offers snacks and simple dishes. Sustainability is of paramount importance throughout the menu, with, for example, a vegan burger and the North Sea burger, exclusively based on by-catch fish
