Light Wood, Dark Strings

Tonbruket adds a new dimension to their versatile sound world. On their most recent album Light Wood, Dark Strings, the band tends towards an organic, acoustic sound. But at other times the emphasis is on synthesizers and electronics. Jazz, rock, kraut, psychedelica, folk, blues: they are all colors on the extensive palette of the Swedish group. Often it sounds raw and unpolished, but surprisingly enough a shared love for classical music lies hidden beneath the surface.

Tonbruket is also known for their collaboration with singer-songwriter Ane Brun. The group was founded 15 years ago by bassist Dan Berglund, formerly of EST and currently a member of Rymden. Keyboardist and violinist Martin Hederos was part of the Swedish rock group The Soundtrack of Our Lives. Guitarist Johan Lindström worked with Rebecka Törnqvist and Elvis Costello. And drummer Andreas Werliin previously played with us in Fire! Orchestra and the trio Ghosted with Oren Ambarchi and Johan Berthling.
