American percussionist, singer, songwriter and producer Sheila Escovedo is one of the most talented percussionists in the world. Since she started her career as a singing drummer in jazz and fusion in the 1970s, she has been stringing together highlights into an impressive career that has spanned five decades. Charmed by her talent, style and versatility, music legends are lining up to make use of her services. She has played with Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, Herbie Hancock and countless others.
Female pioneer
Sheila E. becomes a protégé of Prince and plays on his Purple Rain and Sign O' The Times . In turn, the pop legend produces her debut album The Glamorous Life , which contains a world hit with the eponymous single. Her duet with Prince, A Love Bizarre , becomes a classic. As a female percussionist, she is a pioneer in the male-dominated music world. Musically, she can go in any direction, as long as it swings.
