Janssenbeton

Created by pianist Ivo Janssen, the Janssenbeton is a floating concert hall in the centre of Amsterdam. The former ammunition barge has been converted into an intimate concert hall entertaining as many as 100 people. Recitals include classical compositions by the likes of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms, among many others.

Janssenbeton, music up front

In October 2009 pianist Ivo Janssen moved to a former ammunition ship in the center of Amsterdam.

From the very first viewing of this houseboat, with its robust, seaworthy concrete hull and heavy oak superstructure, it was clear that something special could be made of it.

When, after some wrangling with the city district and inland water management, permission was granted for the installation of sixteen portholes in the hull, and a constructor also confirmed that the very robust concrete construction could be made lighter, an adventurous idea took shape: a concert hall. on the water, in the middle of the city.
