The Element of Surprise
What happens when art and nature meet at the intersection of humour, wonder and alienation? The exhibition "The Element of Surprise" takes visitors on a playful journey through works in which nature comes to life in surprising ways.

Nine artists show how art captures, distorts or reinforces unexpected sides of nature. The works invite a new perspective on the everyday, play with expectations and encourage reflection. Participating artists are: Brigitta Breevaart, Ursula van de Bunte, Lon Buttstedt, Geertje Geertsma, Inge Schuster, Gert Strengholt, Frans Thevis, Ghislaine van Tongeren and Tilly Zegers.
The exhibition poses provocative questions: Does art lose its seriousness when it is humorous, dark or light-hearted? And is that a strength or a weakness within the ‘serious’ art world? "The Element of Surprise" shows that playfulness and artistic depth can go hand in hand.
At the same time, the work of Hetty Ansing can be admired in the small room, under the title Reflections. Her intimate still lifes in acrylic are composed with care and love and show the power of simplicity, tranquility and balance.
