Joep Beving and Maarten Vos
Pianist Joep Beving is known worldwide for his slow, beautiful melodies, while cellist, composer, and producer Maarten Vos works at the intersection of classical and experimental music, enriching the cello with electronic sounds. Together, they’ve created the album Vision of Contentment, released on Nils Frahm’s LEITER label. Vos describes their collaboration as a natural connection, while Beving praises Maarten as a "sculptor of sound" and Nils as a "true master of sound."
Vision of Contentment
Most of Vision of Contentment was written and recorded in July 2023 in a cabin near Bilthoven, surrounded by recording equipment, various synths, a cello, and a piano. The week they spent outside the city proved to be incredibly productive and inspiring, driven by poignant reasons. Beving describes the album’s sound as "finding solace in the acceptance of the inevitable," though it represents much more. It is also a personal tribute to their friend and Beving’s manager, Mark Brounen. Transition is a central theme in the album, with the "Blue Hour"—the twilight—as a powerful metaphor. This transition from sorrow to acceptance, hope, impermanence, and beauty is expressed in the minimalist and immersive music of Beving and Vos.
ADE and Het Concertgebouw
Since the 2013 Trouw at Concertgebouw event featuring Henrik Schwarz, Darkside, and Patrice Bäumel, ADE has become a fixture at Het Concertgebouw. Each year, the venue presents one or more unique concerts during the festival, exploring the intersections and boundaries between electronic, classical, and timeless music. Over the years, artists like Weval, Kiasmos, Junkie XL, Niklas Paschburg, Youssou N’Dour, Binkbeats, and Nils Frahm have performed there. After DJ Sasha’s 2014 performance, 3voor12 noted about electronic music at Het Concertgebouw: "If God was a DJ, he would want this to be his house."
