Cycle route highlights:

Fort Diemerdam

This 19th-century fort was part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. Historical walks often take place around the fortress grounds. The nearby Paviljoen Puur restaurant also makes for a great pit stop.

Muiderslot Castle

A real medieval castle built in 1296 by order of Count Floris V, and one of the most famous castles in the Netherlands. There's lots to explore here, from the castle grounds to the extensive collection hidden within its walls. Take a break in the plum orchard and historic gardens: they are worth the stop.

Weesp

Weesp is a town 700 years old and one of the fourteen fortified towns of the country. The protected historical centre has forts, windmills, a museum and several cosy terraces along the water.
