Cinetol
Cinetol is a fantastic multifunctional venue with a diverse programme. Firstly, it’s an open-plan workspace kitted out with studios and rehearsal rooms to inspire collaboration between the dozens of creatives, designers and musicians who work there. There’s a small stage that hosts weekly live music from alternative bands and electro-indie pop to jazz and punk acts. You’ll also find regular film and documentary screenings as well as literary events. At the bottom of the building, you can get a bite to eat or a drink at Tolbar, which has a beautiful lively terrace.
Rialto Cinema
There’s always something interesting on show at the Rialto. Dominating the skyline of the Ceintuurbaan with its spectacular art deco facade, the movie theatre has been a much-loved venue in the heart of De Pijp since the 1920s. The Cinema spotlights an eclectic mix of foreign-language titles, documentaries and art-house movies. Inside, you’ll find three screens as well as a stylish bar. On Mondays, you can watch international movies with English subtitles.
CC Amstel
The CC Amstel Theatre is one of De Pijp’s key cultural hotspots, priding itself on its community-focused programming and neighbourhood vibe. The venue is dedicated to the performing arts with music, dance and theatre all catered to under one roof. Keep an eye on events in their ‘Language No Problem’ schedule, including theatre performances in English as well as workshops, lectures, classes and exhibitions.
Museum De Dageraad
The elaborate brick buildings in the Nieuwe Pijp and Diamantbuurt neighbourhoods provide some beautifully preserved examples of the Amsterdam School style. Head over to De Dageraad to find out about this fascinating form of expressionist architecture with a guided tour around the building in English. The museum is the perfect starting point for a neighbourhood architecture walk.
