Maurice Bogaert with the bridge ‘Let Us Meet In The Middle’: A plea for the bridge as a destination, not as a transition to something else. The bridge as a place where you meet, encounter or come towards each other and decide to linger a while. Not as a passage, but as a place to be.

Arjen Lancel with the ‘Groeibrug’: inspired by the fallen trees that have fallen over the water, remain lying there and in some cases simply continue to grow through the city park De Oeverlanden, Arjen developed the design for the Groeibrug. A framework that shows an enormous tree trunk with a branch, interwoven with willow twigs and other types of (climbing) plants. A biotope is created in and around the work, which continues into the water.

Sander van Deurzen with the bridge ‘Sometimes a painting escapes’: With Sander, paintings sometimes escape from the art bubble and move towards the domain of utensils, in this case a bridge. The idea builds on a series of paintings by Sander, which seem to have acquired a will of their own and are starting to make decisions independently. The bridge thus becomes a portal to another space, indicating that one is entering another environment.

Bridge Builders is opened during the annual ‘Phoney Island Fest’, so for those who want to continue to be amazed, there is plenty to see on the artist’s terrain. In Kate the sales exhibition ‘Supernova’, there are over 40 studios to visit and tunes during Jazz Bites in the Kantina. Small Kids Fest on Sunday.
