Rising Star
Saxophonist and composer Tineke Postma is one of the leading musicians on the Dutch jazz scene. Since 2003, she has toured internationally as a bandleader and has released six albums. Her creative and inventive playing has earned her the title of Rising Star on soprano saxophone in the 2019 Downbeat Critics Poll. She has also performed with legends like Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, and with renowned contemporaries such as Esperanza Spalding and Terri Lyne Carrington.
Freya and Aria
Postma's music navigates between innovative improvisations and carefully constructed compositions, with influences from both the jazz tradition and European classical music. Her recent albums, "Freya" and "Aria," received rave reviews, and her new album, "VOYA," will be released this fall. The album title refers to "voyage," "voice," and Oya (the Yoruba goddess of wind, breath, and transformation); a journey through wind, the voice, and the soul, featuring a tribute to her mentor Wayne Shorter's composition "A Place Called Somewhere."
