Schubert's most beautiful choral and piano music
We know Schubert mainly as a composer of songs, chamber music, and symphonies. But do you know his choral music? It is beautiful! Whether he composed for choir a capella or with piano accompaniment, Schubert knew how to combine the drama of his songs with the richness of sound of his orchestral pieces and the intimacy of his chamber music.
Netherlands Radio Choir and Nino Gvetadze
Georgian-Dutch pianist Nino Gvetadze is a regular at Het Concertgebouw. She has given recitals in the Kleine Zaal and recorded a CD there, and she has also impressed in the Grote Zaal, most recently during the benefit Concert for Peace. With the Groot Omroepkoor, the 'house choir' of Het Zondagmorgen Concert, she makes a combination that seems less obvious but which works beautifully: she alternates music for choir and piano by Schubert with piano solo repertoire by Schubert and Brahms. The Groot Omroepkoor also shines in a capella repertoire by Poulenc and Britten.
