A Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra concert is an amazing night out. Language is no problem for international visitors. Everyone is welcome to experience classical music culture and mingle with fellow visitors in a relaxed atmosphere during the intermission. There are also special programmes organised for families and children.
The Concertgebouw Orchestra was founded in 1888, and its distinctive sound has made it one of the world’s leading orchestras. It is famous for its renditions of works by Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss and Anton Bruckner, and for concert traditions such as the St Matthew Passion in the week before Easter and the Christmas Matinee.
World-famous guest conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Iván Fischer, Daniel Harding and Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla have lead the orchestra.
The Concertgebouw Orchestra has had just seven chief conductors in its lifetime. The eighth will be Klaus Mäkelä who joined as artistic partner in the 2022/2023 season, before becoming chief conductor in 2027.
