Shape the City: Greening the City

Updated 2 March 2026 at 15:38
The city of Amsterdam prioritises the development and protection of urban greenspaces. However, as climate change poses continual threats for urban areas - such as increased temperatures in the summer, flooding, and loss of urban biodiversity- supporting a thriving tapestry of urban greenspaces remains a top priority. Through the Greening the City track of Shape the City, conferences can support initiatives that strengthen green spaces, protect urban ecosystems, and improve the environmental quality of Amsterdam.

Help keep Amsterdam green with your event

Activities within this track focus on urban greening, biodiversity, and water stewardship.

Delegates can contribute to environmental initiatives that:

  • Support the creation and maintenance of green spaces in neighbourhoods
  • Strengthen biodiversity through planting and habitat improvement
  • Help remove plastic waste from canals and waterways

In doing so, conferences move from discussing sustainability to actively contributing to a healthier urban environment.
