Human Rights Conference brings global voices together in Amsterdam

A natural home for a global conversation

From 5-7 August, Amsterdam Conference Centre Beurs van Berlage became the headquarters of the Human Rights Conference, held as part of this year’s WorldPride in Amsterdam. The conference had a simple message: united in the fight for equal rights. While the path to achieving this is by no means simple, the congress found a natural home at the Amsterdam Conference Centre Beurs van Berlage, bringing together a diverse, intersectional mix of activists, policymakers, politicians, academics and young changemakers from around the world.

More than 60 sessions, panel discussions and debates explored four central themes: Rights & Governance, Health & Wellbeing, Heritage & Culture, and Resources & Leadership. These were approached through a range of perspectives, including gender, sexuality, trans and non-binary identities, sexual orientation, intersex awareness and body diversity.

A congress with a wider impact

The conference formed part of WorldPride Amsterdam, which was held in the city for the first time from 25 July to 8 August 2026. The event coincides with 25 years of marriage equality in the Netherlands, marking a significant milestone in the country's history of LGBTQIA+ rights.

Amsterdam provided a fitting setting for a conference built around international exchange. As a global city with a long history of bringing people and ideas together, it offered a place for diverse perspectives to meet, challenge one another and work towards a common goal. For international congresses focused on complex global issues, creating that space for exchange can be an important part of turning shared challenges into collective action.

The Human Rights Conference is a strong example of what international meetings can make possible: bringing people from different countries, backgrounds and areas of expertise into the same room to share knowledge, build connections and advance a common cause.
