Warm, colorful and fragile sound
Areia's chamber jazz-style setting creates a warm and intimate sound. Jazz, classical music, free improvisation, and various types of folk music blend to give Areia's music its depth and expressiveness.
In December 2021, Areia recorded their debut album, which was released the following year. The album showcases the band's warm, colorful, and fragile sound, in compositions that journey through bold and exciting musical landscapes. A unique blend of improvisation and composition, based on research into Anthony Braxton, gives Areia's music a beautiful form of sonic storytelling.
Mourning
Since their last album, Areia has slowly grown as a band. Performances and new compositions continue to challenge the band to explore new musical possibilities. In 2024, a series of music was composed around the theme of grief. Something everyone experiences in their lives—grief shows us what we care about, who we are, and how resilient we can be.
This music series was further developed and recorded on the day of the concert and the day after. Listeners can hear a band deep in the process of creating their new album, while this concert takes place right in the middle of it.
