Tetterode

The Tetterode residential building consists of 160 living and working spaces. There are small-scale companies, craft workshops, social and cultural organizations, studios and homes. Because many spaces have been improved and rebuilt by users over the years, there is an unusually strong bond, even love, between the tenants and their space.

Living heritage

Although the squatters from the very beginning were mainly interested in political goals and in creating living space, sustainability is an important advantage in the reuse of old buildings such as Tetterode. In addition, the continued existence of Tetterode has preserved part of Amsterdam's cultural history: the buildings recall a specific working-class culture and express changing insights and ideals in the architectural and urban development field. Tetterode is now a national monument.
