Joint venture for sustainable logistics

CV Charging Europe, a joint venture aimed at installing charge points across Europe for electric heavy-duty trucks and coaches, has launched. The partners, Volvo, TRATON and Daimler, first announced the venture in 2021 and have now received regulatory approval from the EU’s cartel authority. Anja van Niersen has been appointed CEO of the project. She most recently served as CEO and later as chair of the board of Allego, the European electric vehicle charging network provider.

Headquartered in Amsterdam, CV Charging Europe plans to invest €500 million in building and operating at least 1,700 high power charging points on and near motorways and logistics hubs in Europe within the next five years. Volvo, TRATON and Daimler have signed a final agreement giving the three equal shares in the company.

Call to work together

The charging network will be accessible for all heavy commercial vehicles, whatever their brand. In their press release, the three partners called the launch of CV Charging Europe a “call to action to other industry players (…) to work together in order to reach Europe’s climate targets.” President and CEO of the Volvo Group, Martin Lundsted, described the company as “a long-awaited and major step towards achieving the required charging infrastructure for the roll-out and success of battery-electric long-haul trucks and coaches.”
