Over the past year, hybrid events have become the new normal. The event industry has embraced digital channels to organise impactful events, conferences and meetings which reach, engage and convert target groups at scale. Even when in-person conferences and gatherings return, hybrid events combining live and virtual experiences are predicted to be the future of our industry.

Amsterdam is ready for your next hybrid event

Amsterdam is ready to host your hybrid event as soon as restrictions are lifted. Choosing Amsterdam as your event location means you can rely on the city’s core qualities, such as its creativity, openness and collaboration. Amsterdam is also a leader in innovation and applying the possibilities of new technology.

Here are three reasons to choose Amsterdam:

1. Digital connectivity

The digital connectivity in Amsterdam is one of the strongest in the world. Amsterdam is home to the world’s second-largest internet exchange and one of the best cities when it comes to internet speed and reliability, according to the Smart City Index 2020

2. Innovative digital solutions

The digital expertise and innovative spirit Amsterdam is known for is also reflected in its MICE industry. As soon as business models were threatened and planned events were in danger of being cancelled, meeting venues started to come up with innovative, safer solutions for events.

Beurs van Berlage Amsterdam hybrid meetingFor example, Capital C launched a virtual studio and hosted more than 70 online streams and hybrid events last year for companies such as Samsung, Salesforce and Amsterdam Open Air. The Cultural Business Day at Amerpodia became a hybrid event with 30 live guests and a large virtual audience. The M&E experience became hybrid and was built around the latest trends and developments within the Meetings & Events industry. And NXTMICE became the Netherlands’ very first metre-and-a-half hybrid convention about the future of the MICE sector. Get inspired by more of our events during 2020.

3. Embracing new technology

Amsterdam is a thriving tech hub with more than 2,200 tech companies and 450 global and European headquarters of multinationals located in the city. That means embracing new technology and pioneering digital solutions for challenges such as COVID-19 is second nature for the city – and its event industry.

The Stage Is Yours hybrid meeting set-up in Amsterdam RAI conference centreA great example of applying new technology is The Stage is Yours, a hall at RAI Amsterdam, Amsterdam’s largest venue, designed to mitigate risks of COVID-19. The hall offers space for 800 conference participants, 1,175 visitors in (duo) theatre set-ups, or 300 people at round dinner tables. When entering the building, guests can immediately see - on a screen - whether they are keeping enough distance. With the help of artificial intelligence, the cameras project red, yellow and green circles on the heads of visitors to alert them if they're keeping enough distance from others.

Visitors can also wear a bracelet that vibrates as soon as people stand too close. Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of the City of Amsterdam, Victor Everhardt, visited the venue and believed Amsterdam would be ready to host events in a responsible way as soon as restrictions are lifted. The Stage is Yours was developed for live meetings and conferences, but can also be used for hybrid events. On top of that, RAI Amsterdam offers excellent in-house studio facilities and services to help you host an engaging hybrid meeting.
