The Meervaart Theatre has made significant structural steps towards making the building more sustainable by implementing several energy-saving measures to reduce its carbon footprint. Replacing heating boilers and lighting with energy-efficient variants and installing 300 solar panels has reduced the venue’s CO2 emissions by no less than 20%. Plus, the theatre’s catering industry has made substantial sustainable interventions to reduce waste, minimise plastic use and use local, sustainably-oriented suppliers. The Meervaart’s efforts have awarded the venue with a BREEAM-NL In-use 'Very Good' award and an Energy Label A, marking it a sustainable– and highly versatile– event location in Amsterdam’s vibrant cultural sector.
