Funding boost for smart building innovator

Amsterdam-based Next Sense, a Dutch smart building platform provider, has raised €11.5M in a Series A funding round to scale its global operations and enhance its AI-powered platform. The investment was co-led by ABP and ETF Partners, with continued support from existing backers Edge, SHAPE Capital, and Timeless Investments.

This funding represents an important moment in Next Sense’s mission to decarbonise the built environment, which accounts for 40 per cent of global CO₂ emissions, and enable climate-neutral buildings. These solutions help optimise energy usage, enhance sustainability, and improve occupant experiences. The company’s tools also ensure compliance with regulations like the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and align with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Since its formation in early 2024, following a successful merger, Next Sense has experienced rapid growth. The company has doubled its sales volume and expanded its client base to include over 150 high-profile real estate assets. The platform has demonstrated measurable impact, achieving consistent 20-30 per cent energy savings and reducing primary energy consumption by up to 40 per cent per project.

sector. They empower property owners and managers to meet sustainability benchmarks while achieving measurable financial and environmental benefits. The recent Series A funding not only accelerates its global expansion but also reinforces Amsterdam’s position as a hub for sustainability-driven innovation.

Recognised as the world’s most sustainable city in 2024, Amsterdam continues to create forward-thinking initiatives, such as Clean Motion’s EV pilot program or Roboat’s funding to transform urban waterway transport. As the city continues to attract multinational businesses, initiatives like Next Sense play a vital role in creating responsible consumption and advancing the transition to climate-neutral buildings.
