This membership-based online publication focussing on news-related insights and long reads (slogan: un-breaking news) has succeeded in its mission to raise $2.5 million through crowdfunding for an English-language version. De Correspondent will now start work on setting up The Correspondent, which will have a focus on the US market but a global outlook.
It’s been a good few weeks for the good guys, as ethical smartphone makers Fairphone have raised a total of €20 million in funding and debt financing. The company closed a €2.5 million equity crowdfunding campaign last August and has now completed a major round of investments, with €4.5 million of funding coming from lead investor PDENH, impact investor Quadia, existing Fairphone investors DOEN Participaties and PYMWYMIC and others. In addition, Fairphone has received €13 million in debt financing from creditors including the consortium of ABN AMRO and the Dutch Good Growth Fund.
The e-scooter and e-bike sharing service Dott has raised €20 million in an early-stage funding round led by the EQT Ventures fund and Naspers, with participation from Axel Springer Digital Ventures, DN Capital, Felix Capital, FJ Labs, U-Start Club and angel investors. The Amsterdam-based startup offers dockless e-scooters and e-bikes for short-distance travel and the plans to launch its first scooters in the first half of 2019.
Healthy Workers, which offers smart building technology to improve the well-being of office staff, has raised €1.5 million, led by Cairn Real Estate, with participation from investors including Dura Vermeer and Impact Vastgoed.
