Inspiring a new generation of entrepreneurs
Startup24 is a new 24-hour event that will give first- and second-year students the chance to really home in their business skills, with some creative entrepreneurship classes. They’ll meet new people, learn to pitch, embrace their creativity and get inspired. It’s happening across 12 major student cities throughout the Netherlands on 10 and 11 November 2017, including Amsterdam, Arnhem, Delft, Eindhoven, Enschede, Groningen, Leiden, Nijmegen, Rotterdam, Tilburg, Utrecht and Wageningen. The event is being organised by StartupDelta.
The event hopes to continue the trend of successful businesses founded by students in the Netherlands. One prime example is Takeaway.com’s CEO, Jitse Groen, who first started the business when he was still a student. Another is Booking.com, which started off as a small student-led enterprise. They now employ 4,000 people from their office in the heart of Amsterdam. It should come as no surprise that both these awesome businesses are sponsoring the event.
Teaching students key business skills
Local student-led teams in the participating cities will host the events, with room for around 100 students at each city's event. First off, the teams will come up with some creative ideas, and these will then be adapted into a validated concept. These concepts will then be presented in a real startup pitch, giving the students a chance to show off their new skills. There’s plenty of other things to get the students through the 24 hours, too, including games, interactive workshops and – naturally – experienced coaches to put the students through their paces.
“With this event, we hope to inspire students to take entrepreneurship classes, to test their entrepreneurial skills or even start their own company during their study,” said Prince Constantijn of Orange, StartupDelta’s special envoy. “Becoming an entrepreneur is a serious career option that gives you the possibility to live your dreams and change the world! This event is really meant as a first step toward entrepreneurship. Through 24 hours full of fun, energy, hard work and team building, we hope to inspire over 1,000 students in 24 hours to choose the entrepreneurial path.”
