Amsterdam is strengthening its position as a European hub for data and artificial intelligence, as global companies continue to scale their presence in the city. The latest move comes from Databricks, which is expanding into a major new office in Zuidas, highlighting the city’s growing role in global R&D and innovation.

Databricks to scale workforce in new state-of-the-art office

Databricks, the data and AI company, has announced a significant expansion of its operations in Amsterdam with the opening of a new 13,000 square meter office in the city's Zuidas district.

The new state-of-the-art office space, located in The Rock tower, will serve as a hub for Databricks' growing team in the Netherlands and support the company's ambitions to scale its workforce to over 1,000 employees in the Benelux region in the coming years.

The expanded presence in Amsterdam underscores Databricks' commitment to the city as a key global R&D hub for the company. Amsterdam was Databricks' first research and development site outside the United States and remains its largest EMEA-based R&D center.

Amsterdam has always been a very special place for Databricks. It was the first R&D site established outside the U.S. and is the largest in EMEA. New capabilities within Genie, Lakebase, and Agent Bricks will be developed here.

The new office will also strengthen Databricks' partnerships with major customers in the region, including ABN Amro, Heineken, Shell and UMC Utrecht, as the company looks to further drive the adoption of its Lakebase serverless Postgres database and Genie conversational AI assistant.

Our expansion in Amsterdam is a highly strategic investment in the incredible team that is driving the future of data and AI. This state-of-the-art new office space will attract top talent, placing us at the heart of the Benelux data and AI community and inspiring our team to collaborate, innovate and deliver the best outcomes for our customers.

Kevin Jonkergouw, RVP of Benelux at Databricks

Databricks expects to move into the new Amsterdam office by the end of 2026. The company will also host two Databricks AI Days events in the Benelux region this spring, in Amsterdam on March 31 and Brussels on April 2, to share best practices for scaling data-driven applications.
