Amsterdam startup Neno raises €6.6 million to tackle SME admin with AI
Led by New York-based AlleyCorp, with participation from Motive Partners and firstminute capital, the round follows Neno’s launch in the Netherlands in early 2026. The company says it has since attracted almost 200 customers across sectors including hospitality, e-commerce, professional services and software.
The investment will support additional hiring across accounting, tax and commercial roles, as well as a dedicated AI research team and preparations for international expansion.
A service, not simply another tool
Neno’s proposition goes beyond standalone bookkeeping software. Business accounts, payment cards, invoicing, payroll, bookkeeping and tax administration sit within one environment, where technology matches and classifies transactions before in-house accountants review the records and handle decisions requiring professional judgement.
Rather than positioning AI as a replacement for accountants, the company is using it to reduce the amount of repetitive work they perform and increase the number of businesses they can support. Neno says this approach enables its accountants to complete reconciliation and VAT preparation five times faster, while saving customers an average of eight hours of administration each month.
European growth from Amsterdam

Part of the investment will establish Neno Labs, a research team exploring how financial systems could respond to routine events without waiting for repeated instructions. Neno calls this concept “Ambient AI”: technology that might, for example, revise a cash-flow forecast when a large invoice is recorded or keep tax estimates updated as new transactions enter the accounts.
Any automated action would take place within parameters agreed by the customer and reviewed by Neno’s accountants, with questions requiring judgement still passed to people.
From its headquarters on Amsterdam’s Herengracht, Neno is drawing on experience from companies including Adyen, Mollie and Plaid, alongside professional-services firms such as Deloitte, EY and BDO. The Netherlands will remain its main market while the company develops the model further, before planned European expansion from the second half of 2027. The UK, Belgium, Italy and Spain are among the possible next markets.
Neno’s combination of financial expertise and applied AI places it at the intersection of Amsterdams wider tech and AI ecosystem and its established financial services sector.
Adapting the service to countries with different tax rules and accounting practices will be an important test. The new funding gives Neno the resources to begin that work from Amsterdam, while contributing to the city’s wider tech and AI ecosystem.
