De Nationale Opera - Fidelio
A liberation opera, a revolutionary work of art, an ode to love, a utopian drama. Beethoven's only opera Fidelio is all of these. Numerous qualifications and interpretations shroud the work in mystery, but above all demonstrate that it is a unique piece of musical theater that expresses the hope for a just, free and humane future. Watch this spectacle at the National Opera & Ballet.
De Nationale Opera - Fidelio
Love, revolution and freedom
Fidelio is Leonore. Dressed as a man and under a new name, she has embarked on an adventure to free her beloved Florestan from the deepest darkness of Pizzaro's dungeons. His tyrannical violence, abuse of power and inhumane actions make him one of the most despicable figures in opera history. The battle that Fidelio has to fight is therefore one of life and death. Against the backdrop of a corrupt world, hope flourishes through love.
