Couleur Vocale series: Les Dames Vocales with 'Hymnes from East and West'
Gustav Holst became fascinated by the Hindu texts of the Rig Veda and learned Sanskrit to delve deeper into its uniqueness. He created several works in a highly individual atmosphere, including the four beautiful hymns for the women's choir and harp. Listen in the De Waalse Kerk (Walloon Church).

A musically inspired entire
Barber takes us back to very early Christianity with a hymn for the women who did not want to yield to violence because of their faith in Christ. Lasse Thoresen set several texts of the Bahai faith to music. The young Slovenian composer Makor set several mystical texts to music and placed the singers spread out in the room. The May Magnificat by English poet Gerald Manley Hopkins sj overflows with the loveliness of nature in May to honour Mary. Many visions and inspirations from East and West flow together in this program by the women's ensemble Les Dames Vocales into a musical and inspired whole.
About Les Dames Vocales
Les Dames Vocales, started in the autumn of 2020, is an Amsterdam project ensemble for women's voices led by Jeroen Spitteler. The singers are all experienced and often sing in mixed choirs or other ensembles. However, the love for the beautiful repertoire and the exceptional vocal sound inherent in the combination of high voices brings these musicians together in this challenging ensemble. LDV has a broad taste: in principle, we sing all the classical repertoire suitable for our composition, from early medieval to contemporary music.
