Schokland
You once lived high and dry on Schokland in a river delta and later on an island in the Zuiderzee. It was living with water. Now the rugged island with its various mounds is clearly visible in the otherwise sleek Noordoostpolder.
UNESCO World Heritage
Schokland was the first UNESCO World Heritage area in the Netherlands because of the 10,000 years of settlement history that has been preserved in the soil. Now nature protects the mineral resources. Enjoy the many birds, the forest and the landscape around you during your walk. Also visit Museum Schokland, which focuses on the history of the area.
