Resistance Museum Amsterdam

Here you will uncover the impressive history behind the difficult choices that the Dutch had to make during the dark days of the German occupation in the Second World War.

100 personal stories challenge you to reflect on what you would do in these extreme and challenging circumstances. They provide insights into the value of tolerance, freedom, and democracy.

Helping people in hiding, the illegal press and forging papers is becoming a day job for a small minority of the Dutch population. Their personal stories illustrate the dilemmas and choices they and others faced. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Resistance Museum also has about five changing exhibitions every year.

Temporary Exhibition: "Cas Oorthuys, Restistance Photographer"

An overview of the work done by Dutch photographer and resistance fighter Cas Oorthuys (1908-1975) during World War II in the Netherlands and in Indonesia on the eve of independence. The exhibition unveils the personal story of a resistance photographer who risked his life to capture the conditions.

On display until January 14, 2024.

Resistance Museum Junior

Since the end of 2013, a special museum section for children has been opened: Verzetsmuseum Junior. Here, children follow the true experiences of four children during the war.

It is not necessary to reserve a time slot to visit this location with your City Card. Make sure your City Card is valid at the time of your visit.

Free audio tour

Free audio tours (mobile guides) are available in the museum in Dutch, English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. The audio tour takes you through the museum and provides an explanation of many objects.
