The message behind Queer & Pride Amsterdam

Formerly known as Pride Amsterdam, Queer & Pride Amsterdam is one of the most significant events in Europe and is a festival to celebrate the freedom to be who you are and love who you want.

The past 26 years have been dominated by sexual orientations and the struggle to deviate from heteronormativity. Change is in order, but the journey is not easy. Each year Queer & Pride Amsterdam challenges itself with new themes. It may vary by country or culture, typically considered male or female. Occupations that used to be typically male are now sometimes seen as female and vice versa.

Once again, Queer & Pride Amsterdam has a well-filled agenda this year. In addition to the various parties, there are also film screenings, sports competitions, exhibitions, debates and the icing on the figurative cake: The Canal Parade - on the last Saturday of Pride Amsterdam. The Pride calendar has more than 300 events; check the website for the latest information.

Featured events

On the 8th day, Pride Amsterdam prepares for its world-famous Canal Parade, where boats sail from Oosterdok via Nieuwe Herengracht, Amstel and Prinsengracht to Westerdok for a unique spectacle.

There will also be another Pride Walk in 2024. This is an annual equal rights demonstration for the global rainbow community. On 20 July, we walk with pride from Dam Square to Museumplein.

This year, you can also participate in LoveSwim. Dive into the Amstel with other swimmers and swim your favourite distance. If you need more of a challenge, join the FunTriathlon.
