About Yellowjackets
Over the past half-century, The Yellowjackets have never stood still. The American band started with a rock line-up and drew inspiration from jazz and funk. At the same time, the group influenced new developments in pop, R&B and hip-hop. The four-piece formation has won several Grammy Awards and recently released its thirtieth album, Parallel Motion. This one is also full of musical journeys of discovery characterized by steady grooves and virtuoso twists. From the beginning, Russell Ferrante has been the constant factor on piano and keyboards. Since the 1980s, Will Kennedy has occupied the drum stool intermittently. Saxophonist Bob Mintzer joined in 1990 and increasingly influenced the band's sound as a composer and arranger. Bassist Dane Alderson, the youngest member of the Yellowjackets clan, has been a member for almost a decade. 'Filled with wisdom and short on gimmicks. It's comforting to hear musicians with nothing to prove but lots to share' (Jazz Weekly).
