Getting to Castles & Gardens

Make the most of excellent public transport connections to explore the Castles and Gardens in the Amsterdam Area.

Amsterdam is a city steeped in history, as is the surrounding region. So step outside the city, into the Amsterdam Area, and discover fairy-tale castles, grand country estates, elaborate gardens and tranquil rivers flowing through the landscape. There is a fantastic bus and train network throughout the region, that connects perfectly with the public transport in Amsterdam. As such, getting out and about is quick and easy.

Weesp, Amsterdam Castle Muiderslot & Fortress Island Pampus

  • Direct train from Amsterdam Centraal Station to Weesp Station, transfer to bus stop Muiden, Centrum by bus 110 or rental bike  –  45 minutes

Naarden

  • Take bus 209 from Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA Station to bus stop Westwalstraat, Naarden – 40 minutes
  • Train service from Amsterdam Central Station to Naarden-Bussem – 30 minutes, then take bus 110 to bus stop Naarden, Westwalstraat – 8 minutes (or walk – 25 minutes)

Hilversum, Huizen and Singer Laren Museum

  • Train from Amsterdam Centraal Station to Hilversum, transfer to bus 108 or 109 to Laren - 50 minutes
  • Take bus 320 from Amsterdam Amstel Station to bus stop Huizen, Crailo P+R - 30 minutes. From there, it's a scenic 20-minute walk to the museum

Amstelveen City Centre

  • Tram 5 from Amsterdam Zuid Station to Amstelveen Stadshart – 20 minutes

Take the stress out of your journey and travel around Amsterdam and to the Castles and Gardens region with the Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket. Tickets are valid on all metro, tram and bus lines operated by GVB, Connexxion, AllGo and EBS, including night buses, plus NS trains in the Amsterdam Area. Remember, you must check in and out with your card every time you enter and exit a bus, tram, train or metro. Your ticket is activated from the first check in.
