About Amsterdam 750
On 27 October 2025, Amsterdam will be 750 years old, and the city is planning a massive celebration. The anniversary year, from 27 October 2024 to the actual birthday, will be all about the city's history, future and the path to get there. Let's celebrate Amsterdam forever and for everyone.
Activities during the anniversary year
During the anniversary year, you'll find something going on almost every day, from small-scale neighbourhood initiatives set up by locals to the best Amsterdam offers in terms of music, theatre, art, culture, sport and education. We'll also be celebrating significant anniversaries for SAIL Amsterdam 2025, the TSC Amsterdam Marathon and Kwaku Festival, which all took place for the first time 50 years ago.
Who's invited?
The celebration is, of course, for every local resident within Amsterdam itself and the surrounding region. But we want to celebrate the birthday with everyone who has a heart for Amsterdam, based across the Netherlands or living abroad. After all, it's not just the 750th birthday of Amsterdam, it's also the birthday of the Dutch capital.
The theme
One thing's for sure: the people of Amsterdam adore their city. Now, if you ask them why, everyone's got a personal tale to recount. Anyone who has embraced this city holds it close in their heart, forever. For some, Amsterdam remains that vibrant, youthful city, whilst others associate it with freedom. Perhaps it's the place one always feels like they're coming home to. Something that is 'forever' runs deep; we cherish and take great care of it. Therefore, the motto of Amsterdam 750 is Voor altijd... (Forever...). How you complete that sentence is entirely up to you!
