The City of Amsterdam has launched a new subsidy scheme to help companies intending to use electric cars, taxis and trucks as a key means of transportation around the city. With this, the municipality hopes to encourage extensive use of electric vehicles, making the city a green transportation hub.
This new subsidy scheme for 2012 is already open. Companies can apply for 5000 euros per electric passenger car, 10,000 euros per electric taxi, and 40,000 euros per electric truck. The aim of the scheme is to encourage the use of electric vehicles, directly improving the air quality in Amsterdam, as there will be fewer journeys made by traditionally fuelled vehicles emitting carbon dioxide and other toxins. More information about the scheme and how to apply can be found here (in Dutch). For furter information and subsidy application assistance in English, please call 020-556 5355.
The City of Amsterdam has ambitious environmental targets and plans to have 10,000 electric vehicles operating in the city by 2015. To accomplish this, the City has also initiated a subsidy scheme for the installation of recharging points for electric cars. The scheme aims to encourage local companies to install a recharging point on private premises but accessible to the public (e.g. parking lots).
There are already about 100 publicly accessible charging points; making Amsterdam a European trendsetter in the introduction of electric mobility.
Previous subsidy schemes to encourage the use of electric modes of transportation have already proven to be a success. In 2010, the City of Amsterdam set aside a budget of 3 million euros for a subsidy scheme reimbursing businesses in Amsterdam for up to 50% of the additional cost of purchasing an electric vehicle. These funds enabled local businesses to purchase 260 new electric vehicles, setting a clear marker that the city is intent on becoming a green transportation hub.
