Museum In ’t Houten Huis
Located in the middle of the rustic De Rijp, this museum shows the rich history of this region, the area around the Eilandspolder (Schermer Island).
What was once an island with herring fishermen and whalers. Where shipowners and traders brought wealth, but where decay and poverty also had to be fought. Where Anabaptists could practice their faith freely, where Leeghwater designed its windmills and town halls and stood at the cradle of De Beemster. Where the water became land but the wooden houses remained. The museum shows interesting exhibitions about history, culture and art.
