SkyNRG’s sustainable aviation revolution

A global leader in Sustainable Aviation Fuel since 2010, Amsterdam-based SkyNRG has succeeded in raising €175M to to scale up sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to accelerate the aviation industry's transition to net-zero. Significantly reducing the industry’s impact on the environment, their mission is to scale up SAF capacity for aviation to meet 2050 net zero commitments and markedly cut down the industry’s carbon emissions. 

The first company in the world to supply SAF on a commercial flight in 2011, SkyNRG has supplied SAF to over 40 airlines across the world and is now developing dedicated production facilities to support the shift from fossil jet fuel to sustainable aviation fuel. When used in jets, their SAF can achieve a minimum emissions reduction of 75% compared to fossil jet fuel throughout its lifespan.

In Amsterdam's Port, the dedicated Synkero facility aims to produce 100,000 tonnes annually of sustainable aviation fuel by converting CO2 and hydrogen.This innovative e-fuel will be produced using green hydrogen, a combination of water and renewable energy, and CO2 – leveraging an existing kerosene pipeline to Schiphol airport, and ensuring seamless transport and usage by airlines.

Shifting away from fossil fuels

The €175M investment from Macquarie Asset Management will facilitate ongoing growth for SkyNRG which aims to establish dedicated SAF facilities in Europe and the US by 2030 through strategic collaboration with offtake partners. 

Thanks to growing political and regulatory support, SkyNRG projects that by 2050, incentives will drive demand for investments of up to €650 billion in the sector, accelerating the aviation industry's shift away from fossil fuels.
