End of the century

A concert in late romantic atmospheres. Hugo Wolf wrote some 200 songs in three years that capture the essence of the spirit of the fin de siècle. Mahler also masterfully depicts the dramatic and artistic conflicts of his time in music. Such as Um Mitternacht : four searching, groping minor couplets, then the suddenly radiant major confidence 'Hab ich die Macht in Deine Hand gegeben: Herr über Tod und Leben'.

"Without him, a radio choir in Germany like the SWR Vokalensemble, which is dedicated to new music, would have been unthinkable," wrote the SWR Vokalensemble upon the death of Clytus Gottwald in 2023.
