The unsteadiness of the silence is palpable

When we don’t know what awaits us, silence is deafening. Threatening or serene. It makes us vulnerable. How that silence is transformed into music – into thundering clusters, into harmonies that emerge from nowhere or hushed melodies – can be heard in the music for cello and accordion. How silence translates into movement – continuous, eruptive, directly emotional or visually complex – is shown by the dancers of LeineRoebana. The body of the dancer becomes one with the breath of the accordion and the soul of the cello.

SILENZIO features iconic compositions for cello and accordion by Sofia Gubaidulina, Josquin des Prez, George Crumb and Arvo Pärt and electronic soundscapes by Dyane Donck.

In 2023, choreographic duo Andrea Leine and Harijono Roebana were awarded the Dansersfonds'79 Award of Merit for their contributions to Dutch dance. The jury praised the “impressive performances, which are always completely unique and often show a surprising interplay between dance and the most diverse musical styles”.
