Queering Puppets Festival Amsterdam - Paper Ensemble: #17
Musicians make paper sing in the Plein Theater. The Paper Ensemble is one of the more unique music groups in the Netherlands. Founded by Jochem van Tol and developed in collaboration with Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti. They came up with a series of sculptural paper instruments that stem from an investigation of sound, listening and composition. In the spirit of Japanese Zen, the ensemble evokes the magic of a silent material and magnifies it in a poetic and moving way.

The Paper Ensemble - #17
During the Queering Puppets Festival Amsterdam, The Paper Ensemble plays part of their new piece #17, in which they meet two percussionists, Frank Rosaly and Paul Koek. Together with them, they explore the space of sound in a new playing style inspired by the formal language of Japanese gardens. A form language that lets go of the human dimension and returns to worldly forms and sounds. In recent years, The Paper Ensemble has travelled and played extensively in Japan, where they researched this formal language of Japanese gardens and gardening and translated it into their musical work. The Paper Ensemble consists of Jochem van Tol, Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti, Mei Yi Lee and Klara Alexova.
