Conversations about life and death
Sweet Sixteen is an urgent, honest and moving performance about depression and suicide. It tells the story of Dunya and her elder sister Dido who committed suicide. The night before Dunya is due to give a presentation at school on suicide (a topic she has chosen herself to present in class), Dido shows up in her room. They have conversations about life and death. Dunya tries to understand what happened to her beloved sister. She asks the burning questions she's been carrying around for a long time: why and how did Dido manage to do this? What was actually wrong with her? Does Dido even know what she did to Dunya and their parents? Why didn't Dido ask for help?
Sweet Sixteen is a story about love, compassion and our urge to understand each other, with humor and empathy.
