Oxfam Novib
Together with Oxfam Novib, Melkweg is screening this new documentary, as a follow-up to ‘Don't Stop Talking About Palestine’ in November last year. Oxfam Novib wil introduce the film and explain why it is important to see it and how Oxfam, together with Palestinian partner organisations, is working for the right of Palestinians to remain on their land.
An active of creative resistance
No Other Land follows Basel Adra, a young Palestinian activist, who since his youth has been fighting against the expulsion of his people by Israel. He documents the destruction of the town in his region, where Israeli soldiers destroy houses and exile civilians. Then, he meets Yuval, an Israeli journalist. An unlikely friendship forms between them. Even though Yuval supports Basel, the immense inequality between them puts a strain on their relationship. Basel lives under military occupation, while Yuval is free to go as he pleases.
No Other Land, made by a Palestinian-Israeli collective consisting of Basel Adra, Yuval Abraham, Hamdan Ballal & Rachel Szor, represents an act of creative resistance. It attempts to bring justice to this never-ending conflict. The documentary premiered at the Berlin film festival earlier this year, where it won the Panorama Dokumente Audience Award, as well as the Berlinale Documentary Award. The film has been screened at various international film festivals and has received various prizes.
