The darkness as a place of freedom and imagination

With four other performers, Nazar explores not only geopolitical national borders, but also the border between light and darkness, clarity and obscurity and between consciousness and subconsciousness. With a mix of choreography, music and rituals, the players embrace darkness as a place of freedom and imagination, as a counterbalance to a society with permanent lighting, control and surveillance.

While the audience sits in the dark, the performers are given full control over what we see and how. In this way, The Borderland: dark promise turns the power dynamic between the spectators and those who are watched. As these shadow dwellers gain control of the surveillance camera, our shared fears about the spiritual and political sides of our existence are exposed.
