Nativity Play Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam & Holland Baroque

On Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 December, the 400 singers of NVA aged 5 to 21 will sing their annual Christmas play in Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. What started in 2010 with a small Christmas play by the youngest singers has now grown into a tradition with an annual audience from all over the Netherlands and even beyond. Every year, our singers look forward to being on stage together, from the youngest to the oldest, from sheep to Mary and Joseph.

Heartwarming and theatrical

The musical heart of Kerstspel is formed by the beautiful arrangements that baroque pioneer Ton Koopman made of Christmas carols such as Nu syt wellecome and Wij komen van Oosten . The Netherlands and other Northwestern European countries have their own repertoire of Christmas and Advent carols, some of which date back to the Middle Ages.

Although banned during the Reformation, they survived the historical storms thanks to their artistic strength and powerful melodies. Now they can be heard in this enchanting theatrical concert, based on a concept by Caro Kindt.
