Listening to Stone Beings Reza Mirabi

Performance at the intersection of storytelling, music and choreography

First a farmer in the Kermanshah province of Eastern Kurdistan and then a plumber in southern Tehran, Javad Mirabi developed a form of vascular dementia in the last cycle of his life, a slow period in which his gaze became increasingly distant and seemed to be stuck between times.

Ten years after his death, Reza still hears his grandfather’s voice through the same recurring memories as if he were trying to tell him something. With seven stones, a piece of wire, a few stories, a song, a smell and field recordings from his phone, he now tries to reconstruct these memories in an attempt to decipher what his message might be.

By following these personal threads from the past to the present, Reza inevitably confronts political and social realities that differ not only from his and his family's, but also from the stories of countless lives.
