Ika Schwander - è vero, è vero, è vero

This performance in Frascati is inspired by the timeless story of Judith and Holofernes and by Artemisia Gentileschi's painting, in which the head of her rapist is depicted as the slain Holofernes. While Gentileschi symbolically cut off her rapist's head in her painting, director Ika Schwander carries it between her legs. è vero è vero è vero shows the aftermath of sexual violence and the timelessness of pain and resistance.

è vero, è vero, è vero

è vero, è vero, è vero (translated: 'it is true it is true it is true') were the words uttered in 1612 by the 17-year-old painter Artemisia Gentileschi during the trial of Agostino Tassi, the man who raped her.

"I had three options: wife, mother or nun. But I wanted some epic use for my excellent body. Some heroism. So instead, I became a murderer. I killed a man and left his body in his bed. I only took his head ."
