About Rusalka
For his enchanting 1901 opera Rusalka , the Czech composer Antonín Dvořák was inspired by the Germanic folktale about Undine, on which Hans Christian Andersen also based The Little Mermaid . Dvořák composed poetic, sensual music with melancholic melodies, culminating in Rusalka's Song to the Moon .
With conductor Joana Mallwitz at the head of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, and under the direction of the German Philipp Stölzl, soprano Eleonora Buratto sings the role of Rusalka. The American tenor Brian Jagde is the prince. A timeless fairy tale about dreams, loneliness and a desperate desire for wholeness.
