Holland Festival: Łukasz Twarkowski, Lietuvos nacionalinis dramos teatras - Respublika
A rave with techno music, film, theater and visual arts – in 'Respublika' it all comes together and a world of its own is created. The audience is invited into a utopian, alternative world. Here everyone is free to come and go, to eat, drink and participate in a six-hour trip in the Danube at Donauweg 11.
Holland Festival: Łukasz Twarkowski, Lietuvos nacionalinis dramos teatras - Respublika
Respublika
What could a fairer society look like? Can we learn to live together in an environmentally conscious and peaceful way, realizing that the concept of freedom can be linked not only to individual progress, but also to social progress?
With these questions in mind, the members of the multilingual ensemble around director, video artist and raver Łukasz Twarkowski have detached themselves from everyday worries. As an experiment, they retreated to live as a micro-community in the forests of Lithuania and ponder existential questions as well as their own despairs and desires. Twarkowski followed this process with his camera and, together with author Joanna Bednarczyk, visual artist Fabien Lédé, composer Bogumil Misala, DJ Spectribe, choreographer Pawel Sakowicz and the performers, created a six-hour stage mockumentary - in which the visitor can be carried away and discover new forms of coexistence.
The DJ regularly takes over and actors and audience meet on the dance floor. When the performance is over, the dance party continues...
Rave is, by definition, anti-capitalist. It takes time. You go to an electronic music event to escape the world for a few hours. You feel absolute freedom. You can be who you are and who you want to be. Dancing for so long is unproductive in a way. You achieve nothing for hours. But now that many people are afraid of being unproductive, Respublika's duration is also a statement: "I deserve it, I need it, and nothing else matters." Łukasz Twarkowski
This performance lasts a total of six hours. However, visitors are welcome to come later or stay shorter.
