Holland Festival: Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead - Simon McBurney
The compelling strangeness of the original text comes to life
What does it mean to live in harmony with the universe and what are the dangerous consequences if we lose our connection with nature? Mysterious deaths occur among the members of the local hunting club on a remote Polish mountainside. One of the villagers, the eccentric Janina Duszejko, observes the behavior of the animals and thus has her suspicions about the connection between the animals and the dead.
Director and Holland Festival favorite Simon McBurney and his company Complicité are known for their innovative use of technology on stage ( The Encounter , Holland Festival 2016), creating impressive experiences.
They bring the extraordinary world of Janina Duszejko to life convincingly and overwhelmingly. This woman in her sixties who lives in a remote village in the Polish mountains believes that every event in life can be explained by astrology. She is based on the main character in Polish author and Nobel Prize winner Olga Tokarczuk's novel of the same name, Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead .
