Battle between the intellect and the body
Justin de Jager - Through Everyone will recognize it: Sometimes you have to 'go through something' to come out better in the end. Through is a duet that embodies this in both concept and form.
In the disarming Through, the maker dissects before your eyes the apparent magic trick that threading appears to be. In his dance, Justin looks back on his early career as a choreographer: the lonely first steps, the vulnerable experiments, the struggles and doubts, the renewed inspiration and the collaboration. The solo ends in a duet between Justin and his good friend and longtime dance partner Tosca Knauf.
In 2021, the largely self-made Justin de Jager received the Leo Spreksel Award for young choreographic talent. An extra helping hand after he earned both the first prize at AmsterDans and the audience prize at the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition (RIDCC) in 2019 with his duet Grayscale. Through is the result of the residency associated with the Spreksel Award.
Justin's work is notable for his specialization in threading. A movement concept from breakdance in which optical illusions are created in all sorts of ways with the body in a seemingly endless succession of movements. The complex partner work associated with threading takes the viewer into a hypnotic trance. If you want to attend this performance, buy your tickets via this link .
