Transidentity across borders

This edition delves into the Latin culture in which they grew up, their search for gender identity, their stories of flight, challenges, triumphs and the choices they made after their arrival in the Netherlands. We will talk about their identity as trans and as migrants, the role of the AZC in our society and the transition from there to here, from man to woman, in times of great change worldwide.

Meet Alejandra Ortiz, a Mexican trans woman and author of the poignant book The Truth Will Set Me Free , which won the Opzij Literature Prize. Despite her undocumented status, Alejandra is a prominent voice in marginalized communities and has received multiple awards, including the Winq Community Award. She is involved with the TranScreen Film Festival, Queer Network Alliance, Transgender Europe, is the founder of Papaya Kuir , and was named one of Harper's Bazaar's 12 Women of the Year.

And Natsumi Hernandez, a Nicaraguan trans woman and activist who works for human rights and the LGBTIQ+ community. Since her asylum application in the Netherlands, she has volunteered for various organizations that work for trans rights and migrants, including Papaya Kuir, Rainbow House and Trans United Nederland.

The evening will be completed with a performance by drag king artist LatinX Charm .

The theater hall is the new chat room during Amsterdam Talks Sex in Plein Theater! In this controversial talk show series, sex, love and relationship coach Handan Aydin opens the conversation about sexuality with experts, experienced professionals and the audience, each time from a special angle.

Amsterdam Talks Sex is also about people and how they shape their lives—sometimes for themselves, sometimes from a community and often in the search for a community where authenticity is central.
